One charger for all mobiles -UN’s ITU okays Open standard

universalbatterychargerThe TECHNOLOGY for developing a universal mobile phone charger that will work with all future handsets, regardless of make and model, has been approved by UN’s telecom body.

This is an very significant development which might save the world millions of dollars worth of plastic and hardware. It also helps us avoid the headache of carrying our chargers with us when were we are traveling. In the near future mobile docking stations will be available in fights, offices, metro and other eateries for people with any cellular model to charge their cellphones.

The new charger, which will use micro-USB plug as common universal charging interface compatible with any type of mobile phone, will also reduce the amount of energy consumed while charging, according to International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The one-size-fits-all standard will allow mobile users worldwide to charge their handsets anywhere from any available charger.

The charger shown here is the universal mobile phone charger, which relies on the micro-USB connection found in the new BlackBerry Storm, will appear later this year.
