Indian company develops the first Android table PC
It’s not every day that an Indian company makes waves at an international tech show. And while software has long been an Indian strength, designing and making a device has almost never been. Hyderabad-based Notion Ink displayed a prototype of its tablet, named Adam, at the CES and it was a crowd-puller. The world’s first tablet to use the revolutionary Pixel Qi screen, it runs on Nvidia’s latest Tegra processor and claims to give four times more battery life than other tablets. The Pixel Qi screen lets you view 1080p videos in direct sunlight with no difference in video quality and also has an e-Book Reader built in. The tablet runs on Android and has whole host of apps built by Notion Ink on it. The company also plans to launch its own open source apps store in the future. The full version of the prototype shown at CES will be unveiled later this year at the mobile conference GSM in Barcelona.
As of now since it is just a prototype that was hand-made especially for showing the Adam tablet at this year’s CES. According to company founder Rohan Shravan the final hardware will be either 12mm thick or 14mm, with a minimal bezel. They also have a new UI in the works, the device at CES is using a bare bones Android OS.
The commericial version is likely to be priced at Rs 15,000 or $350
